Funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund, the “Carbon Reduction@School Inter-school Competition” (“Competition”) is organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC), and is co-organised by Council for Carbon Neutrality and Sustainable Development. It aims to integrate carbon-reducing habits into school life, planting the seeds of environmental protection from a young age. The Competition targets to encourage students and school staff to actively conserve energy and water on campus, and to bring carbon-reducing habits from schools to their daily lives, mobilising all families in Hong Kong to work together for Hong Kong to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The Competition will be held from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. With Primary School Category and Secondary School Category, all primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, together with their teachers, students and family members are welcome to join. Participating schools are required to promote energy and water conservation, as well as carbon-reducing habits to their students, and submit electricity and water bills for the 2025-26and 2026-27 school years during the competition period for comparison to evaluate the carbon reduction performance. School staff, students, and their family members can also submit photos of their carbon-reducing habits via a WhatsApp chatbot using the school's account to accumulate more carbon reductions for their respective schools.
